Kornfeind Named Ivy League Rookie of the Week
PRINCETON, N.J. – After leading the Dartmouth women’s volleyball team to its first conference win of the season last weekend, outside hitter Molly Kornfeind earned Ivy League Rookie of the Week honors as announced by the league office Tuesday afternoon.
Kornfeind becomes the second member of the freshman class to receive weekly recognition, following in the footsteps of Emily Astarita (Sept. 24).
The Pacific Palisades, Calif., native registered a pair of double-doubles as the Big Green went 1-1 last week. She amassed 30 kills in the two matches with an attack percentage of .221 and 30 digs.
In the opener against Columbia, she registered a career-high 16 digs with 13 kills. In the finale, Kornfeind had a season-high 17 kills leading Dartmouth to a come-from-behind, 3-2, win over Cornell. In the contest versus the Big Red, she led the squad in kills for the seventh time this season.
Through 17 games, she ranks second on the team with 133 kills while leading Dartmouth with 2.51 kills per set.
Yale’s Kelly Johnson was named the league’s Player of the Week for the second time this season.
Kornfeind and the Big Green return to action this weekend, Oct. 18-19, hitting the road to face Princeton and Penn.
