PRINCETON, N.J. – After leading the Dartmouth women’s volleyball team to a 2-2 record at the Dartmouth Duels, opposite hitter Emily Astarita earned Ivy League Co-Rookie of the Week honors as announced by the league office Tuesday afternoon.
Astarita becomes the first freshman on the team to receive recognition since Alex Schoenberger in November of 2011.
In her second home weekend as a member of the Big Green, Astarita impressed amassing 26 kills, 23 digs, one service ace and a pair of double-doubles in just nine sets of action.
After seeing limited playing time in the first two matches of the weekend, Astarita had a major impact against in-state rival New Hampshire. She had 11 kills and 11 digs in a four-set triumph over the Wildcats.
Her strongest game of the weekend came versus No. 9 Minnesota. She closed out the weekend by hitting .429 against the Gophers with 14 kills and 12 digs in a three-set loss.
The Setauket, N.Y., native continues to build her early season resume, having already been named to the All-Tournament teams at both the Volley in the Valley and the Dartmouth Duels.
Astarita and the Big Green return to action on Friday, Sept. 27, traveling to Cambridge to open their Ivy League slate against Harvard. The match is set to begin at 7 p.m. inside Malkin Athletic Center.
