NEW ORLEANS – For the second straight outdoor season, Dartmouth’s Abbey D'Agostino has been named the US Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Women’s Northeast Region Track Athlete of the Year.

The junior from Topsfield, Mass., has put together another outstanding outdoor campaign that has landed her back in Eugene this week for a shot at repeating in the 5000m at the NCAA National Championship Meet.

The 2013 Ivy League Heptagonal Champion in both the 1500m and 3000m, D’Agostino has yet to lose a race in any event during the current outdoor campaign. Most recently, she qualified to move on to nationals in the 5000m after winning her heat by more than six seconds at the NCAA East Regional in Greensboro, N.C. last weekend.

D’Agostino’s 15:11.35 in the 5000m at this year’s Mt. Sac Relays not only was a school record, but was also the third-fastest in-season time ever run by a collegiate woman in the event.

Regional accolades from the USTFCCCA are nothing new for the Big Green’s top harrier as D’Agostino also received this honor during both the indoor and cross country seasons. In addition, she was also tabbed as the Women’s National Indoor Track Athlete of the Year and the National Female Scholar of the Year for cross country (2012) by the organization during the 2012-13 academic calendar. That showing at Mt. Sac also earned D’Agostino National Women’s Track Athlete of the Week honors.

The defending outdoor national champion in the 5000m, D’Agostino will look to add to her hardware in Eugene, Ore., Friday night with a shot at claiming back-to-back titles in the event. The junior also won individual championships during the indoor season in both the 3000m and 5000m in Fayetteville, Ark.

D’Agostino will run in the 5000m Friday, June 7 at 9:15 ET at Oregon’s Historic Hayward Field.
