DES MOINES, Iowa - In her final collegiate race as a member of the Dartmouth women's track team, senior Alexi Pappas (Alameda, Calif.) wrapped up her career as a First Team All-American in the 3,000-meter steeplechase.
Pappas ran a 10:01.20 to finish third in the finals of the event Friday evening at the 2012 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships hosted by Drake.
The senior runner picked up six team points in the standings for the Big Green with her showing en route to earning First Team All-America honors in the process.
Pappas qualified for the finals with the fourth-fastest time in the semis on Wednesday as competition opened at Drake Stadium.
Colorado's Shalaya Kipp and Florida's Genevieve LaCaze were the top two runners in the final heat and the only two to edge out a determined Pappas in her final race as a member of Dartmouth.
Sophomore Abbey D'Agostino (Topsfield, Mass.) will try and duplicate Pappas' success when she runs in the finals of the 5,000 meters on Saturday afternoon, the last event of the year for the Big Green track programs.
