JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Senior Alexi Pappas' (Alameda, Calif.) place in Dartmouth women's track & field history is safe. Her dominating final season in the Green and White running the 3,000-meter steeplechase has assured herself of that fact.

Pappas broke her own school record in the event Friday night in the second day of competition at the 2012 NCAA East Regional at North Florida's Hodges Stadium, winning her heat with a time of 9:55.89 to qualify second overall. The second-place finisher in the heat was more than eight seconds back of the Dartmouth senior.

The previous record of 9:58.07 in the event was set by Pappas earlier this season as well. The only three sub-10-minute marks in this event in program history have all been set by the Big Green senior co-captain in 2012.

Pappas will now move on to the NCAA Championship Meet in two weeks at Drake in Des Moines, Iowa, after just missing out last season. The second-place finish is an improvement of 20 spots  from a year ago, while Friday's time is nearly 32 seconds better than her mark in Indiana at last spring's East Regional.

The top 12 competitors will move on to Drake where they will meet the top 12 from the West Regional, taking place in Austin, Texas, this weekend.

Sophomore Abbey D'Agostino (Topsfield, Mass.) will begin her pursuit of her second-straight All-America honors in the 5,000 meters when she runs in the preliminary round Saturday at 8:45 p.m. Freshman Cathy Liebowitz (Plainfield, N.H.) will also look to move on to Iowa as she competes in the hammer throw earlier in the day.
