HANOVER, N.H. – Dartmouth’s Nathaniel Leverone Field House underwent a series of improvements this summer that have left the nearly five-decade old building with a new look.

Most notably, Leverone’s track underwent a facelift as a new surface was installed and re-lined in preparation for the upcoming indoor season. A new turf surface was also added for teams utilizing the building as a practice facility during inclement weather and in the off-season.

“We are looking forward to the newly re-surfaced track and throwing areas in Leverone,” women’s head coach Sandy Ford-Centonze said. “The entire facility is enhanced tremendously. This new surface will reduce the strong impact on the athletes’ legs and feet, as well as producing good times. We will christen it with the 2014 Dartmouth Relays and end the season with the 2014 Indoor Heptagonal Championships.”

Her male coaching counterpart also shared her sentiment.

"The 2014 indoor season is going to be one of the most exciting ones in several years. In addition to a great series of home meets we will be competing on a beautiful new track surface,” men’s head coach Barry Harwick ’77 said. “The Weinbel Company did a fantastic job in the re-surfacing project. The new track will be fast, much better for our athletes’ legs, and a brighter, more inviting venue.

“This is something that the team and staff have been waiting for so we are thrilled to see the finished product," Harwick continued.

The indoor season begins in December for both the men’s and women’s teams, but the first home event at Leverone will be the 45th Annual Dartmouth Relays on Jan. 10-12, 2014.
