HANOVER, N.H. – The Dartmouth women’s track & field team came out on top in the standings Saturday afternoon at the lone home meet of the 2013 season held at Memorial Field against visiting Vermont and UMass-Lowell.

The Big Green picked up 76 team points to take first with the River Hawks taking second (64 points) and the Catamounts finishing third (39 points). In all, eight individuals from the home team claimed the top spot in their respective events on this day.

Junior Megan Krumpoch led a Dartmouth contingent in the 800m that claimed the top six spots. Krumpoch ran a 2:13.56 to finish first and pick up the five points for her team. Freshman Elizabeth Markowitz was second with a 2:13.91 to earn three points.

Freshman Dana Giordano took the top spot in the 1500m with a 4:28.84, while sophomore Erica Hendershot was the winner in the 100m hurdles with a wind-legal 15.26.

Both the 4x400m and the 4x100m relay teams from Dartmouth claimed first on Saturday. The 4x100m ran a 48.83, while the 4x400m posted a 3:50.78, more than 10 seconds ahead of the event’s second-place team.

The field events saw first-place showings from sophomore Cathy Liebowitz in the hammer throw (161-5.0/49.20m) as well as seniors Emmaline Berg in the discus (142-3.0/43.36m) and Cara Vernacchia in the triple jump (37-0.25/11.28m).

She didn’t earn a win in any event on Saturday, but freshman Sara Kikut had a strong afternoon as she took third in the 100m (12.37), second in the 200m (23.53) and was the anchor of the winning 4x100m relay team.

Dartmouth will be back in action next at the Sam Howell Invitational next weekend at Princeton. The meet will begin Friday and run through Saturday.
