BOSTON - In its season-opening meet Saturday at BU's Track & Tennis Center, the Dartmouth women's indoor track & field team got strong showings from several individuals.

The non-scoring Jay Carisella Invite was hosted by Northeastern.

Senior Emmaline Berg claimed second in the shot put with a throw of 45-9.0/13.94m. Sophomore Corrine Romano was third in the event as her best was measured at 39-7.0/12.06m.

The throwers also got an impressive showing from sophomore Cathy Liebowitz in the weight throw as she took third with a measured distance of 50-2.75/15.31m.

On the track, junior Janae Dunchack ran to a fourth-place finish in the 60-meter hurdles. In the finals, the two-time Ivy League champ ran a 9.46. Erica Hendershot (6th, 9.57) and Lauren Ready (8th, 9.63) joined her in the final heat of the event.

Jennifer Meech led Dartmouth in the 400 meters as she ran a 58.59 in her collegiate debut to take fifth overall. The freshman was also strong in the 200, claiming seventh in 25.69.

Freshmen Emily Grotz and Elizabeth Markowitz were fourth and fifth, respectively, in the 1000. Grotz ran a 3:02.93, while Markowitz was close behind in 3:03.02.

The Big Green's 4x400-meter relay team was fourth in 3:58.13.

Dartmouth continues it new December schedule with another two meets next Saturday as it travels to Harvard and a multis meet at Rhode Island Friday.
