Dartmouth Field Hockey Head Coach Amy Fowler has announced the hiring of Pattie Gillern as an assistant coach to round out her staff for the upcoming 2012 season.
Gillern, a former All-American and All-Big Ten player at Iowa, comes to Dartmouth after having spent the last two seasons at West Chester University in Pennsylvania where she helped lead the Rams to the 2011 Division II National Championship.
As a part of the Big Green's coaching staff, Gillern will serve as the team's recruiting coordinator, a role she also held at West Chester. Although she will work in the development and preparation of the entire team, Gillern will focus primarily on Dartmouth's attacking structure and efficiency.
Prior to her two-year stint with the Rams, Gillern spent six years as an assistant at Rutgers from 2004-09. While with the Scarlet Knights, in addition to on-field coaching responsibilities, as she planned recruiting visits, produced correspondences with parents and alumni, as well as video operations and managed the team's travel and equipment.
Like her time at West Chester, Gillern will also oversee video editing, analysis and exchanges with Dartmouth's opponents.
No stranger to year-round dedication to the sport, Gillern has as worked at numerous field hockey camps over the last decade, including two camps at Dartmouth in that time. While in New Jersey, she was the assistant director of the Rutgers University Field Hockey Camp, a position that had her oversee marketing, finances and the everyday activities of hundreds of campers each summer.
As a player with the Hawkeyes, Gillern earned Academic All-Big Ten honors and was named a team captain as a senior in 2003.
A 2004 graduate of the University of Iowa, Gillern completed her Masters of Public Administration with a focus in Sport Management at West Chester in 2013.
