HANOVER, N.H. – With the season looming just two months away, the Dartmouth men’s hockey team will take advantage of the last few fading weeks of summer to travel to both Italy and Switzerland for 11 days.

While in Europe, the Big Green will play three games against professional teams, including two in Switzerland and one in Italy.

"This trip is one that our program has been looking forward to for some time. I would like to thank our Alumni and Friends for their generosity and support to help make our trip a reality,” head coach Bob Gaudet said. “I would like to thank the people at Eurosportstours who helped bring everything together for us.

“This trip will serve as a time for the players to come together in a unique setting and build stronger relationships off the ice that we hope will carry over to on-ice successes in the near future," Gaudet continued.

The team is set to leave from Thompson Arena early on the morning of August 27 before flying from Boston to Milan to start this once-in-a-lifetime trip.

Once there, the Green will begin their journey with three days in Como. In that time, Dartmouth will make the short trip to Lucerne, Switzerland to play the first of its three contests with a game against the Swiss pro team Langenthal on Thursday (Aug. 29).

A second and final match-up with a Swiss team will come on Saturday, Aug. 31 as the Big Green will make their way to Weinfelden for an evening meeting with HC Thurgau inside its home arena, Güttingersreuti.

Another game on Tuesday, Sept. 3 is also on tap for the team, this time against an Italian pro team, Renon, in the northern Italian town of Ritten.

From there, the team will make a trip to tour Venice before heading south to Rome where it will finish its European excursion with three days in the capital city.

Dartmouth will return to the United States on Saturday, Sept. 7 in time for players to start the fall semester and prepare for the upcoming 2013-14 season that kicks off Oct. 25-26 in Newark, N.J., at the Liberty Invitational held at the Prudential Center.
