HANOVER, N.H. - The Dartmouth women's tennis team won both matches in its doubleheader on Saturday, beating Fordham 6-1 in the morning and Albany 7-0 in the afternoon at the Boss Tennis Center and Gordon Pavilion.

The Big Green improve to 6-1 with the victories, while Rams fall to 1-3 and Great Danes drop to 2-3.

Dartmouth swept the doubles points in both matches to get off to a strong start. Sophomore Janet Liu played in the top spot against Fordham, defeating Amy Simidian who had reached the round of 16 of the 2011 ITA Northeast Regional.

Freshman Katherine Yau played No. 2 singles in both matches, dropping only 1 game. In her match against Albany, Yau defeated Irene Santos 6-0, 6-1, who had a No. 443 WTA pro ranking in 2010.

Sophomore Akiko Okuda cruised at No. 3 singles, and also picked up doubles wins with Yau and freshman Sarah Bessen.

Bessen also won handily at No. 5 singles against Fordham, while classmate Suzy Tan battled back from a 3-9 deficit in a third set super-breaker at No. 6 before ultimately falling 11-9 to Anika Novacek.

In the Albany match, senior tri-captain Sarah Leonard won in straight sets at number one singles. Her fellow captain, Christina Danosi and Liu won at No. 2 doubles.

Danosi then made her first appearance in a singles dual match since helping Dartmouth win an Ivy League title in spring 2011, winning in straight sets at No. 6.

Junior Melissa Matsuoka picked up her second win of the day against Albany, while freshman Julienne Keong also won easily at No. 5.

Dartmouth returns to action against Iowa on March 18 at Pepperdine during their spring break trip to California.
