Women's Tennis Announces 2014-15 Captains and Team Awards

HANOVER, N.H.  –  Dartmouth women’s tennis head coach Bob Dallis has named Akiko Okuda and Katherine Yau team captains for the upcoming 2014-15 season.

Okuda, playing mostly at fourth and fifth singles, was 10-7 during the spring and 8-8 at second doubles with Melissa Matsuoka The Tenafly, New Jersey, native is an environmental studies major modified with geography and a minor in engineering.

Yau, who played all but one match at number one singles, was 9-7 overall and was 8-7 at number one doubles with Taylor Ng. She is from Manhasset, New York, and is majoring in neuroscience.

Dartmouth finished the Ivy League with a 4-3 record. The Big Green wrapped up the year with a 4-3 victory over No. 54 Harvard. It was exceptionally strong campaign for Ivy League tennis as two teams qualified for the NCAA Team Championship - Princeton and No. 39 Columbia.

Dartmouth women’s tennis also announced its year-end award winners, as voted by team members.

Ng was named Most Valuable and Most Improved Player after going 6-1 in the Ivy League at number two singles, and finished 22-6 in singles play and 17-11 in doubles.

Matsuoka was named the winner of the Class of ’85 Spirit Award. The Class of ’85 Award is given annually to the player who most embodies the values of Dartmouth women’s tennis: sportsmanship, work ethic, and team spirit.
