Dartmouth Baseball Announces 2014 Schedule
The campaign opens on Feb. 28 against Florida International University, beginning a three-game series with the Golden Panthers. The last (and only) time these two teams met on the diamond, Dartmouth handed FIU a 15-9 defeat in an elimination game of the NCAA Regional hosted by the University of Miami in 2010.
After a 12-day break for the winter-quarter finals, Coach Whalen will take his team down to Texas to take on the Horned Frogs of TCU, who have made appearances at an NCAA Regional for nine of the past 10 seasons, including a trip to the College World Series in 2010.
Following the three games in Fort Worth, the Green head north to Lawrence, Kan., to play a neutral-site three-game series against Nebraska Omaha before squaring off against the Kansas Jayhawks three times. Dartmouth has played KU twice before, losing both contests, including an elimination game at the 2009 NCAA Regional in Chapel Hill, N.C.
Upon returning from the Plains, the Big Green have one more non-conference game at Siena before opening Ivy League play with a doubleheader at Cornell on March 29. Dartmouth will get its first opportunity to play one of its 15 home games at Red Rolfe Field at Biondi Park — where the Green have a 67-10 record — on April 2 when Quinnipiac comes to Hanover.
The rematch of last year’s Ivy Championship Series will take place at Dartmouth when Columbia invades Biondi Park for a noon twinbill on April 5. Other teams to play in Hanover this season are Harvard, Holy Cross, UMass Lowell, St. Anselm, Siena and Yale, while the final non-conference road game will take place at Boston College on April 8. Last year the Eagles became the only team outside of the Ivy League to defeat Dartmouth at Biondi Park, which opened in 2009.
