This week's chosen athletes complete the circle from pitching to catching. Sophomore Matt MacDowell is a catcher for the baseball team but it was his prowess beside the plate that led the Green to three wins in Florida. In the pitching circle for the softball team, Kristen Rumley is picking up where she left off last season with her second consecutive Ivy Pitcher of the Week honor with three wins in Florida last week.

For their efforts MacDowell and Rumley have been named the Northeast Credit Union Athlets of the Week.

Each week, DartmouthSports.com will spotlight two outstanding student-athletes - one male, one female - as the Northeast Credit Union Athletes of the Week. Student-athletes may be chosen based upon their efforts both on and off the field of competition.

Kristen Rumley (Katy, Texas) So.,  Pitcher, Softball

Sophomore Kristen Rumley (Katy, Texas) earned  her second consecutive Ivy League Pitcher of the Week honor after going 3-0 last weekend with wins over Robert Morris, Quinnipiac and Maryland at the USF Invitational. in 19.0 innings of work, the Texas native allowed just 10 hits with no runs and just three walks to go along with 20 strikes. Against Robert Morris, Rumley tossed 10 strikes, her first game in double figures this season and just two strikes shy of her career-high 12 and three short of the single-game record of 13. Against Quinnipiac, Rumley flirted with a no-hitter, allowing just one hit in the Big Green’s 4-0 victory. Rumley sits in fifth place on Dartmouth’s all-time strikeout list with 202 Ks. She is one of just five players in program history to have at least 200 strikes

Matt MacDowell (Falmouth, Maine) So., Catcher, Baseball

Matt MacDowell, a sophomore from Falmouth, Maine, led Dartmouth to three wins in Florida over the weekend by hitting .500 (6-for-12) with six RBIs. The Big Green trailed Army in the ninth on Saturday, 2-1, but had tied the score when MacDowell smacked a two-run triple — his third hit of the game -- for the game-winning hit in the 5-2 victory. The next day, he gave Dartmouth a 2-0 lead in his first at-bat with a single to drive in two runs, then hit his first collegiate home run the next time up to plate two more runs in an 11-4 triumph over LIU Brooklyn. In the second game on Sunday, MacDowell added a single in a 4-0 win over UAB. Entering Tuesday's game against Vassar, the left-handed hitter was tied for the team lead with a .429 average and led the Big Green with a .762 slugging percentage. In the field, MacDowell gunned down two of the three runners that tried to steal on him, and has thrown out 3-of-5 on the season.
