HANOVER, N.H. — The Ivy League announced its weekly baseball awards for the scheduled week ending April 27, and Dartmouth freshman Mike Concato earned a share of the Rookie of the Week award for the second straight week. He is the first Big Green pitcher ever to earn the honor twice, and the seventh Dartmouth player since 2000 to do so.

Concato took the mound at Harvard on Tuesday knowing Dartmouth needed a victory to keep its postseason hopes alive, and he came through by hurling a seven-hit shutout against the Crimson in the first game of a doubleheader. The right-hander from Woodbridge, Conn., escaped a bases-loaded, one-out jam in the third and was engaged in a scoreless duel through five innings before the Green batted around and scored nine runs in the sixth to essentially seal the victory. This was the second straight shutout for Concato as he has tossed 14 consecutive scoreless innings and has an ERA of 0.95 over his last three starts.

For the season, Concato has a 2-2 record and leads the Big Green with his 50.1 innings and 3.40 ERA. He is the first Big Green pitcher to post two shutouts in one season in 26 years.

Dartmouth (17-19, 11-9 Ivy) went on to win the second game of the twinbill and move into a tie for first in the Rolfe Division, forcing a one-game playoff with Yale (19-21, 11-9 Ivy) to be played in Hanover this weekend. The date and time are still to be determined.

The Big Green have earned five weekly awards from the league office this season. The first one came after the first week of play when senior outfielder Jeff Keller was pegged as the Ivy co-Player of the Week on March 4. On March 25, sophomore right-hander Duncan Robinson took home the Pitcher of the Week honor. Junior Thomas Roulis received the Player of the Week award on April 15 before Concato garnered the rookie honor on consecutive weeks.

Notes: The other Big Green players since 2000 to earn the Rookie of the Week award twice in a season: Mike Mileusnic ’03, Scott Shirrell ’04, Jeff Onstott ’11, Joe Sclafani ’12, Zack Bellenger ’13 and Joe Purritano ’16 … also since 2000, no other team in the league has as many weekly awards as Dartmouth with 79. The next closest is Penn with 62 ... the last Big Green hurler to throw two shutouts in one season was Kevin Griffin ’88 in his senior year, while former MLB pitcher Mike Remlinger ’88 performed the feat one year earlier ... other future big league pitchers that performed the feat were Pete Broberg ’72 (twice), Chuck Seelbach ’70 (three in 1970) and Jim Beattie ’76 (three in 1975, two in 1974).
