HANOVER, N.H. - Dartmouth sophomore Abbey D'Agostino (Topsfield, Mass.) has been named the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Northeast Region Women's Athlete of the Year.

D'Agostino earns the award after taking the individual title at the regional championships Saturday afternoon by 14 seconds over the second-place runner from Syracuse, crossing the line in 20:25.

Just two weeks prior, D'Agostino became the first Big Green runner to take the individual crown at Heps, finishing first at the annual Ivy League championship meet, held this year in Princeton. Her title was the first by a Dartmouth woman since Jenna Rogers in 1997.

The sophomore harrier, running in her first collegiate cross country season, automatically qualified for the NCAA Championship with her first-place showing at the regionals held in suburban Buffalo. D'Agostino's win was the first by a Dartmouth runner at the regional meet in program history.

D'Agostino and senior Ethan Shaw (Falmouth, Maine) of the Dartmouth men's cross country team will run Monday in Terre Haute, Ind., at this year's NCAA Championships hosted by Indiana State.
