HANOVER, N.H. - For the second straight season Dartmouth's Abbey D'Agostino has been named the 2012 US Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Division I Women's Northeast Region Athlete of the Year.
The junior from Topsfield, Mass., was honored with the accolade after winning the Northeast Regional for the second consecutive fall as she took the top spot on Saturday at Hammonasset State Park's 6K course.
D'Agostino's 19:51 earned her a first-place finish and a four-second advantage over the second-place runner, Sarah Collins from Providence.
With the individual northeast regional title to her credit, the Big Green harrier will once again head to the NCAA Championship Meet this Saturday in Louisville, Ky. Race time on the 6K course is set for noon.
Last season, D'Agostino finished third at NCAAs in Indiana to earn her first of four All-America First Team honors in 2011-12. This fall, the meet will take place on Louisville's E.P. 'Tom' Sawyer State Park course.
D'Agostino has run in just three meets this season for the Green and White. She opened the season with a 35-second win at the Dartmouth Invitational on Sept. 8 in Hanover. She next dominated the field at Lehigh's Paul Short Invite on Sept. 28, winning by 24 seconds.
An injury sidelined the junior for more than a month before returning to competition at Regionals, her third win of the year in just her third race.
