MADISON, Conn. - Junior Abbey D'Agostino of the Dartmouth women's cross country team had not run competitively since dominating the field at the Paul Short Invitational back on Sept. 28, but that did little to stop her from defending her NCAA Northeast Regional Championship Friday afternoon.

The Topsfield, Mass., native successfully defended last year's title won in Buffalo by duplicating the feat Friday in Hammonasset State Park in Madison, Conn. She claimed the top spot in a field of more than 250 competitors with a time of 19:51.1.

Second-place Sarah Collins from Providence ran a 19:55.3.

D'Agostino will now head back to the NCAA Championship Meet for the second consecutive season after finishing third at last year's final race. It was the first of four First Team All-American honors earned in 2011-12 across all three seasons.

The 2012 NCAA Championship will be held in Louisville on Saturday, Nov. 17.

As a team, the Big Green finished 10th in a field of 37 teams with 234 points.

Taking second for the Big Green was freshman and All-Ivy Second Team runner Dana Giordano. She was 29th overall in 20:48.3.

Rounding out the scoring for Dartmouth was junior Hannah Rowe in 54th (21:15.6), senior Katie Sullivan 56th (21:19.0) and sophomore Alison Lanois in 94th (21:58.1).

The competition Friday was extremely close in the top 10, something that was illustrated by two separate ties. After Dartmouth there was nearly a 100-point drop-off as Stony Brook was 11th with 330.
