PRINCETON, N.J. – The No. 8 Dartmouth women’s squash team fell in the opening round of the Howe Cup to top-seeded Harvard, 9-0, on Friday afternoon at the Jadwin Gymnasium Squash Center on Princeton's campus.
A year after capturing the Kurtz Cup in Flight B of the CSA Team Championships, the Big Green earned a spot in Flight A. The three-day event features the top eight teams in the country, including six Ivy League squads.
The Crimson showed why they are the tournament’s No. 1 seed, sweeping eight of the nine matches.
At No. 8, Tori Dewey put up a good fight for the Green and White before dropping a five-game heartbreaker to Isabelle Dowling. Dewey won the first game, 11-8, but Dowling rallied to tie at one with a 13-11 victory in game two. After dropping the third game, Dewey rallied to tie the match at two with an 11-9 triumph in the fourth game. In the decisive game, Dowling outlasted Dewey, winning 11-9.
Dartmouth moves on to the consolation semifinal where it will face the loser of the Princeton-Yale match taking place later this afternoon. The Tigers enter the tournament as No. 5 seed, while the Bulldogs are seeded fourth.
