AMHERST, MASS. — At the first day of the 2012 CSA Individual Championships, the Dartmouth women's squash team had three players participate with junior Becky Lau (Toronto, Ontario) the only player to not lose a match for the Big Green.
In the Ramsay Division, junior Corey Schafer (Natick, Mass.) faced Elizabeth Eyre of Princeton in the opening round. Eyre won in three sets, 11-2, 11-4, 11-6, to knock Schafer into the first round consolation bracket. Alexandra Sawin of Princeton defeated Schafer, 12-10, 11-6, 8-11, 14-12, to knock Schafer out of the tournament.
Lau had a bye in the first round of the Holleran Division and then played Dori Rahbar of Brown in the round of 32. Lau won in three games, 11-7, 12-10, 11-3, to move on to the round of 16. She plays Shihui Mao of Yale on Saturday at 11:15 a.m.
Sophomore Melina Turk (Winnipeg, Manitoba) won her first round match against Alyssa Bawden of Hamilton, 11-4, 11-8, 11-8, and then faced Elena Laird of Middlebury in the round of 32. Laird bested Turk, 11-9, 15-13, 11-4, to knock Turk into the second round consolation bracket. Turk plays Randima Ranaweera of Mount Holyoke College at 9:45 a.m. on Saturday.
