Scott Phelps came to Dartmouth prior to the start of the 2012-13 academic year and has been a valuable member of the coaching staff for five seasons in both cross country and both indoor and outdoor track & field at the start of the 2017-18 year.

A former assistant coach at the University of Texas, Phelps assists the Big Green coaching staff in day-to-day operations, while working closely with student-athletes on both the men's and women's sides.

In his first season with the Green and White, Phelps was a key member of the staff working with middle distance and distance runners. First-Team All-Ivy League showings from Will Geoghegan '15 and Phil Royer '13 highlighted Phelps' first Heptagonal Cross Country meet in November 2012.

Since coming to Dartmouth, Phelps has worked with several student-athletes who have gone on to achieve high levels of success. In 2014, one of those individuals was Megan Krumpoch '14, who earned First Team All-America honors in the 800m during both the indoor and outdoor seasons at the NCAA Championships.

Krumpoch also won the indoor Heps title in the indoor 800m as a senior in 2014 and was a member of the 4x800m relay team that won Heps championships in both the indoor and outdoor meets that year with the help of Phelps.

Under Phelps' guidance, numerous Dartmouth student-athletes have earned All-Ivy honors and secured points for the Big Green at championship events as well as post top-five times in their respective events in Dartmouth's all-time record books.

As an assistant coach with the cross country programs, Phelps has helped direct the Big Green women's team to a pair of Ivy titles in 2013 and 2014. Additionally, he has worked with individual champions as well as several All-Ivy First and Second Team runners.

As a member of the Longhorns' staff for two years, Phelps was a part of a cross country program that reached the National Championship meet in consecutive seasons.

In both years, Texas produced the top freshman finisher; a product of Phelps' guidance throughout the fall.

During his time in the Lone Star State, Phelps also contributed to the men's indoor and outdoor track & field teams that finished third nationally in the Program of the Year field.

His time in Austin also saw Phelps work directly with two All-Americans and All-Big 12 Performers as well as help the coaching staff produce the nation's top recruiting class in 2011.

A 2010 graduate of the University of Illinois, Phelps was a four-year letterwinner in all three seasons of competition.
