Jean Bain has completed two seasons as the top assistant coach on the Dartmouth basketball staff after spending six seasons across the state at the University of New Hampshire, where he distinguished himself as a recruiter nationally and as an in-game coach. An active member of the NABC and the BCA, Bain is responsible for recruiting student-athletes for the Big Green basketball team and developing the post players.

At UNH, Bain worked closely with the perimeter players, including Tyrone Conley who he mentored to all-rookie status followed by second-team all-conference honors in his senior season. Two other protegés, Tyrece Gibbs and Alvin Abreu, both earned second-team All-America East honors twice. Three of his Wildcat recruits went on to score over 1,000 points in their collegiate careers, including the third all-time leading scorer in UNH history.

Bain began his coaching career at Worcester Polytechnic Institute in 2004-05, a thrilling season in the program’s history as the team set a new school record with 24 regular-season victories while winning the New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) regular-season and tournament titles. Having qualified for the NCAA Division III Tournament for the first time in 20 years, WPI advanced all the way to the Sweet 16. In addition, he served as the assistant director of the WPI Summer Basketball Camp.

A 2002 graduate of Northeastern University with a bachelor’s degree in sociology, Bain was a standout player during his four years. He was chosen as the America East Rookie of the Year in 1999, then went on to be a two-time captain. In his senior campaign, he earned all-conference honors and was selected as the team MVP.

"Jean brings terrific experience and energy to our program," said head coach Paul Cormier. "He is known in the college ranks as an outstanding recruiter, who works very hard in every aspect of the game, just as he did as a standout player at Northeastern. We are thrilled and very fortunate to have someone with Jean's experience to fill this role."
