HANOVER, N.H. – The Dartmouth sailing team competed in two regattas over the weekend, highlighted by a fifth place finish in the New England Team Race Championship.
The Big Green traveled to Boston for the New England Team Race where the top four finishers qualify for Nationals later this spring. Yale took first with an 18-5 record, while the host school, Tufts finished second (15-8). MIT came in third (15-8), while Boston College (14-9) rounded out the top four.
Dartmouth was represented by Robert Floyd, Charlie Lalumiere, Christopher Williford, Madeline Cooney, Nate Greason, Sophie Kerr and Sophia Diserio. The Big Green finished the weekend with a 14-9 record which included a win over the Bulldogs in the second round. Saturday brought a heavy breeze with unpredictable shifts across the course while sailors were met with more manageable winds on Sunday for the final day of racing.
A group of sailors also traveled to New London, Connecticut for the Emily Wick Trophy, where Dartmouth finished 12th with 312 points. Ivy League foe Yale took the top spot with 182 points, followed by Rhode Island with 239 and the College of Charleston with 245. The Big Green were represented by Emma White, Peninah Benjamin, Peggy Kilvert, Lisa Genthner and Mia Steck.
Saturday brought shifty winds with gusts in the high 20s, which gave way to variable conditions on Sunday. Dartmouth recorded two top five finishes in Division A and four top five finishes in Division B including a second and third place finish.
The Big Green return to the water next weekend for the Navy Spring Race in Annapolis, Maryland and the Owen, Mosbacher in New Haven, Connecticut.
