Sailing Competes in Three Regattas

HANOVER, N.H. – The Dartmouth sailing team competed in three events over the weekend reeling in a trio of top-nine finishes, highlighted by a fifth place performance at the SMC Fall Interconference hosted by St. Mary’s.

The SMC Fall Interconference boasted a fleet of 18 boats as the Dartmouth duo of Matthew Wefer and Avery Plough raced to a fourth place finish in A-Division earning a total of 115 points over 18 races. Wefer and Plough got off to a hot start, finishing in the top-three of the first five heats. The seniors also ended strong finishing fifth in the 17th and 18th races. In the B-Division, Christopher Price and Charlotte Snow earned 174 points over 18 heats, highlighted by a second place finish in race 8.

At the Chris Loder regatta hosted by New Hampshire, the Big Green finished sixth out of the 18 team field. Dartmouth tied with Connecticut College for fifth with a total of 39 points, but the Camels won the head-to-head tiebreaker. The B-Division racers of Hunter Johnstone and Victor Hollenberg tied for first in their heat with eight points over three races. The tandem won the third and final race for Dartmouth. In the A-Division, Evan Read and John Lewis earned 31 points over four heats.

Dartmouth wrapped up its weekend with a ninth place finish at the 31st Hood Trophy. The event was hosted by Tufts and had a field of 18 teams. Deirdre Lambert and Carissa Crawford earned 74 points over nine races in the A-Division. Lambert and Crawford had four top-four finishes including a win in the fifth heat. In the B-Division, Colin Murphy and Sarah Peck totaled 97 points highlighted by a second place finish in race 7.

The Big Green return to the water next weekend, Oct. 5-6, competing in five regattas throughout the northeast, including hosting Hewitt Trophy.
