ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – The Dartmouth sailing team jumped up one spot in the final day of action to reel in a third place finish at the ICSA/Gill Coed National Championships on Thursday.

On day three of the event the teams completed the final four races as the College of Charleston claimed the championship with an 18-race total of 215 points to top second place Georgetown by 20 points. The Big Green were in third with 256, while Brown and Boston College rounded out the top five.

The three-day event was co-hosted by South Florida, St. Petersburg, Eckerd College and the St. Petersburg Yacht Club while boasting a field of the top 18 Coed teams from across the country. The sailors raced off the coast of St. Petersburg in Tampa Bay.

Once again, the racing was divided into two divisions – ‘A’ and ‘B’ – with the Big Green providing strong performances in each. Between the four races in each division Dartmouth notched four top-three finishes.

In the ‘A’ Division, Dartmouth won two of the final four races and earned a third place result in another to leapfrog Brown. The only other team to win a pair of races in the division was the eventual champion Cougars. The wins for Big Green ‘A’ racers Matt Wefer and Avery Plough came in races 16 and 18, the final race of the season.

In the ‘B’ Division, the Big Green sailors ended with 141 total points through 18 races. Scott Houck and Margaret Wilson reeled in three top-ten finishes on Thursday. The highest result for the ‘B’ Division racers was second in race 16.

Dartmouth finishes the final Coed regatta of the season with yet another top-five result. The Big Green sailors made their presence felt on the national scale as the women captured the programs fourth national title.
