ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – After the second day of racing at the ICSA/Gill Coed National Championships on Wednesday, the Dartmouth sailing team is in fourth place with 210 points.
With one day of racing left, the College of Charleston has 169 points and holds a 16-point edge over second place Georgetown. Brown is in third with 201 points with the Big Green and Boston College rounding out the top five.
The three-day event is co-hosted by South Florida, St. Petersburg, Eckerd College and the St. Petersburg Yacht Club while boasting a field of the top 18 Coed teams from across the country. The sailors are racing off the coast of St. Petersburg in Tampa Bay.
Once again, the racing was divided into two divisions – ‘A’ and ‘B’ – with the Big Green providing strong performances in each. Entering the final event of the spring season, the Dartmouth Coed team was ranked ninth in the country.
In the ‘A’ Division, Dartmouth racked up three top-six finishes in the nine races on day two. The highlights for Big Green ‘A’ racers Matt Wefer and Avery Plough came in race 7 when they finished second and a third place finish in race 11.
In the ‘B’ Division, the Big Green sailors ended with 107 total points through 14 races. Scott Houck and Margaret Wilson reeled in four top-five finishes. The highest result for the ‘B’ Division racers was third in race 12.
Dartmouth and the rest of the field cap the final regatta of the season on Thursday, May 30. The Big Green are in search of their second Coed National Championship and looking to complete the women and coed national title sweep, which they last did in 2000.
