HANOVER, N.H. – The Dartmouth sailing team ended the fall season on a high note over the weekend as the women’s squad captured the Atlantic Coast Championship. The Big Green reeled in a total of 112 points over A- and B-Division races to score an eight-point triumph over second-place Boston College in the event hosted by Cornell.

Also in their final race of 2013, the coed sailors captured fourth place in the Atlantic Coast Championship hosted by Charleston. The Green and White earned 237 points over two divisions of racing to finish just two points back of third-place Yale. Dartmouth finished tied with host Charleston, but by virtue of winning a tie-breaker, finished in fourth-place.

Both the coed and women’s race featured a field of 18 teams.

During the women’s race, Deirdre Lambert and Carissa Crawford turned in a dominant performance to win A-Division by four points.  The duo won three of the 11 races and had five other top-five finishes to register 46 total points. In the B-Division, a quartet of sailors combined to register 66 points to finish third. Kelsey Wheeler, Sarah Williams, Lizzie Guynn and Sarah Peck produced five top-five results over their 11 races.

In the coed championship, the tandem of Matt Wefer and Avery Plough tallied 117 points over 14 races to finish seventh in the A-Division. Wefer and Plough finished in the top-seven in seven races, highlighted by winning race six. Scott Houck and Julia McKown earned 120 points in B-Division to finish sixth thanks to a second-place finish in race 10 and a third-place result in race one.

The Big Green sailing teams return to the water this spring, looking to continue their strong performances.
