PRINCETON, N.J. – Second-seeded Dartmouth women’s tennis moved one step closer to defending its ECAC Championship title by taking down No. 7 Columbia, 4-1, in its first match of the tournament. The Big Green improved to 4-3, while the Lions dipped to 3-2.

A 6-2 win by sophomore Catherine Cable and freshman Maddie Hwang at No. 3 and a 6-1 victory by senior Julia Schroeder and freshman Abigail Chiu at No. 1 gave the first point to the Big Green. At the No. 2 position, senior Kristina Mathis and sophomore Racquel Lyn were narrowly trailing, 5-4, when their match went unfinished.

Dartmouth took that momentum into singles, getting straight-set wins from sophomore Chuyang Guan at No. 6, Lyn at the No. 3 position and Chiu at No. 4, who clinched the match for the Green. The Lions’ lone point came at the top spot.
