HANOVER, N.H.  –  The No. 10 Dartmouth women’s squash team took its first loss of the season on Wednesday evening to No. 1 Harvard at home, falling 8-1. The Big Green starts the season 2-1 while the Crimson start 1-0.

In the first round of matches, Rebecca Brownell, Brynn Bank and Emma Roberts retrieved some amazing shots, but could not persuade Harvard to give up a game. In the second round too, Janel Gaube, Zainab Molani and Sandra Reiss played some experienced opponents and though they got closer in every game, it was not enough to turn the tide.

Starting the third round was Annie Blasberg, playing in the top spot, who fell in three games. Julia Potter won the first game for the women in Green and White, but could not keep the momentum going. Last on for the home team was freshman Ellie Gozigan, who had nothing to lose. Gozigan lost the second game, but was not going to give up that easy. She regrouped and won the match, final score 3-1.

The 51st meeting between the two teams was a challenge for Dartmouth, but with some opportunity for growth and learning takeaways going forward into the rest of the season. This weekend, the Big Green travels to take on Williams on Saturday, Decemebr 9 at 11 a.m., and Middlebury the same day at 6 p.m.
