NAPA VALLEY, Calif. – Dartmouth men’s tennis opened the 2017-18 season at the Silverado Invitational on Friday, kicking tournament play off a few weeks earlier than usual. The Big Green dropped a pair of doubles matches to San Diego while winning all four singles matches against Hawaii.
In doubles, sophomore David Horneffer and senior Ciro Riccardi put up a fight against Nico Borter and Pratt Keerasuntonpong, but ultimately fell to the Toreros, 8-7(5). Senior Max Fliegner and sophomore Charlie Broom paired up to take on Gui Osorio and Joel Gamerov, falling by a score of 8-4.
In singles play, all four Dartmouth players picked up easy wins over their opponents. Riccardi took down Fabian Woehrl, 6-2, 6-2, while Horneffer had a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Felix Albert. Broom defeated Blaz Seric, 6-3, 6-4, and Fliegner added a 6-1, 6-4 win to wrap things up.
Day two of the invitational will continue on Saturday.
