One athlete went the distance for victory this weekend while the other inched out the win by five tenths of a second. Sophomore Morgan Martinelli had three homeruns in a four-game sweep of Ivy rival Brown. Senior Spencer Furey stroked the heavyweight crew to a Bill Cup win for the first time in 13 years.

Their efforts are rewarded by being named the Hanover Brick and Brew Athletes of the Week.

Each week, DartmouthSports.com will spotlight two outstanding student-athletes - one male, one female - as the Hanover Brick and Brew Athletes of the Week. Student-athletes may be chosen based upon their efforts both on and off the field of competition.

Morgan Martinelli, So., Morgan Hill, Calif., 3B,  Softball

Dartmouth third-baseman Morgan Martinelli had an impressive day at the plate on Sunday in the Big Green softball doubleheader vs. Brown. The Morgan Hill, California native hit three homeruns including a two-run blast in Game 1 enroute to Dartmouth’s 13-5 win in five innings. In Game 2, Martinelli hit a solo home run before hitting a three-run homer to help lead the Big Green past the Bears 7-5. She finished the afternoon with 10 RBIs between the two contests and was named Ivy League Player of the week for the first time in her career.

Spencer Furey, Sr., Far Hills, N.J., Men's Heavyweight Crew

Last weekend, No. 8 Dartmouth heavyweight rowing won the Bill Cup for the first time in 13 years by beating Boston University by five tenths of a second in the first varsity. Spencer Furey, the Big Green’s captain, was the stroke in that boat.
