Class of 1976 Award Winners

Eligibility Criteria for Wearers of the Green

Wearers of the Green are Dartmouth students, alumni or coaches who qualify in one of the following criteria:

1. Dartmouth undergraduates and alumni who have been one of the following:

  • Member of a Summer or Winter Olympic team representing any nation in any sport
  • Member of a national and/or age group national team in a sport offered at Dartmouth
  • Member of a major league professional team in a sport offered at Dartmouth
  • Member of a national hall of fame in a sport offered at Dartmouth
  • Individual national or international masters champion

2. Varsity athletes who have achieved one of the following while at Dartmouth:

  • Named to an All-America team (First, Second, Third Team)
  • Member of an NCAA or national championship team
  • Individual NCAA national champion
  • NCAA national statistical champion
  • Selected as Ivy League Player-of-the-Year or its equivalent in sports where the Ivy League does not make this selection (cross country, track and field, swimming, golf)
  • Member of an EARC Sprint or IRA championship crew
  • Winner of the Kenneth Archibald Athletic Prize (Senior athlete)
  • Winner of the Alfred Watson Trophy (Male athlete, any class)
  • Winner of the Class of 1976 Trophy (Female athlete, any class)
  • Named first team All-Ivy in three or more years or first team All-Ivy in two sports
  • Member of a national team in a sport offered at Dartmouth

3. Club Sport athletes who have achieved one of the following while at Dartmouth, as recognized by the national governing body of the club sport:

  • Named to an All-America team (First, Second, Third Team)
  • Member of a national championship team
  • Individual national champion

4. Dartmouth alumni who have been Head Coach of one of the following:

  • Olympic team
  • NCAA or national collegiate championship team
  • A national team in a sport offered at Dartmouth
  • Major league professional team in a sport offered at Dartmouth
  • Selected to a national coaches hall of fame

5. Coaches who have achieved one of the following while at Dartmouth (coaches presently at Dartmouth are not eligible):

  • Olympic head coach
  • NCAA or national championship Varsity team head coach
  • National team head coach
  • Selected to a national coaches hall of fame
  • Head coach of four Ivy League championship Varsity teams or equivalent
  • NCAA coach-of-the-year
  • Head coach of a national championship Club team recognized by the national governing body of the club sport.

Criteria for Honorary Wearers of the Green

In 1994, the designation of selected Dartmouth alumni, coaches and others as Honorary Wearers of the Green was established. An Honorary Wearer of the Green must meet the following criteria:

1. Demonstrate a deep understanding and appreciation of the role of athletics in the Ivy League and at Dartmouth College.

2. Make exceptionally generous contributions of time and/or financial resources that have made a significant impact on the College's athletic programs.

3. Show a long-time commitment to a broad-based, equitable and high-quality program for Dartmouth's student-athletes.
