PRINCETON, N.J. – The Dartmouth heavyweight rowing team opened competition at the IRA National Championship Regatta in New Jersey on Mercer Lake.
The Big Green are rowing in the varsity eight, second varsity, third varsity and the varsity four events. After day one, Dartmouth is slated to row in the semifinals of each event after advancing through the initial heats today.
In the first varsity, the Big Green took third in the first heat and went on to win the repêchage to earn a slot in the semifinals which start tomorrow morning. Dartmouth will face Harvard, Yale, Syracuse, Princeton and Boston University first thing for the semifinal.
The second varsity boat performed well, taking second place in the initial heat, ahead of Syracuse and Penn, to move on to the semifinal round. The Big Green’s field of play tomorrow morning starts with Yale, Harvard, Northeastern, Wisconsin and Boston University.
Dartmouth also took second place in the first heat of the third varsity eight, and will compete in the second semifinal tomorrow against Yale, Boston University, Harvard, Syracuse and Cornell.
The varsity four had the best performance of the day, winning the first heat in its event and will row in the first semifinal tomorrow against Drexel, Holy Cross, Georgetown, Boston University and Brown.
