THIS WEEKEND’S GAMES
The Dartmouth women’s basketball team opens the 2017-18 season Friday taking on the Vermont Catamounts, and remains home to host the Boston College Eagles on Sunday afternoon in Hanover.

SCOUTING THE CATAMOUNTS
Vermont comes to Hanover after already playing one game against St. Michael’s on November 4, where the Catamounts grabbed a 75-58 win. Freshman Hannah Crymble and senior Sydney Smith both scored 15 points apiece in the win over St. Michael’s, the pair returns this season after leading Vermont in points last year. There are five juniors and four seniors, who are entering their last season, back this season bringing with them experience in all positions.

LAST TIME AGAINST VERMONT
On Nov. 13, 2016, Dartmouth fell to the Catamounts on the road, 59-54. Former Big Green forward, Fanni Szabo was the leading scorer with 22 points, and junior Emily Dryden also scored in double-digits with 10 points. Vermont went on a couple of runs that created large gaps in the score. While Dartmouth climbed back to bridge the difference, there were a few incomplete plays that ended the opportunity to tie the game or take the lead, ending in the loss. The Catamounts hold the series lead 20-14.

SCOUTING THE EAGLES
Boston College is coming off a tough 2016-17 season where the Eagles went 9-21, and only six conference wins. Last season’s leading scorer for Boston College, Mariella Fasoula, transferred to Vanderbilt for her junior season, leaving the Eagles with Georgia Pineau who scored the third most points last year, and Emma Guy who was fourth. When they come to Hanover on Sunday, Boston College will have played Bryant University at home on Friday night.

LAST TIME AGAINST BOSTON COLLEGE
Last December the Big Green traveled to Boston to take on the Eagles and fell 65-53, while Kate Letkewicz led the offense with 20 points. Dartmouth tried to close the gap and came within two possessions of doing so, but was unable to complete the race to catch up. Boston College holds the series lead 10-0.

THE CLASS OF 2021
The Big Green has two freshman players who will make their collegiate debut this weekend. Forward Anna Luce and guard Elle Louie will join the rest of Dartmouth’s squad on the court.

KEY RETURNERS
Last season’s leading scorer, Kate Letkewicz, returns this season after posting 11.2 points per game last year. Junior Isalys Quiñones and senior Olivia Smith are also coming off of solid seasons, scoring 9.1 and 8.4 points per game respectively. Senior Emily Slagle was second in free throw percentage last season, behind Fanni Szabo who graduated, averaging .875 in 2016-17. Letkewicz and Smith will also be factors defensively for the Big Green.

COACHING STAFF
Along with the addition of new faces to the roster, Dartmouth also added a new coach to the staff in May of 2017. Taja Edwards was named an assistant coach in the spring, and also is the director of recruiting and social media for the team. Head Coach Belle Koclanes will return for her fifth season as well as Assistant Coach Addie Micir, Assistant Coach Steve Harney is back for his second season and Michael Motta returns as the Director of Basketball Operations for the fifth year.
