The Dartmouth men’s soccer team continues its homestand against Vermont on Saturday afternoon.
SCOUTING THE CATAMOUNTS
UVM enters the match with a 4-3 record, coming off a weekend win over UC Riverside, 2-0. Against the highlanders, sophomore Jon Barddal and junior Geo Alves scored for the Catamounts. Alves is leading the offense with six goals and one assist, he also is at the top of the America East charts for goals, shots and points. Alex Popovich and Aron Runarsson have split time in the goal this season. Popovich is second in the conference in shutouts with two, and the pair have combined for 27 saves.
LAST TIME AGAINST UVM
On September 24, 2016, the Big Green played to a tie against the Catamounts at home. Then-senior Emmanuel Arteaga scored for Dartmouth and former Vermont player Stefan Lamanna had the only goal for the road team. This weekend’s match will be the 41st meeting between the two teams and the Big Green leads the series with 21 wins (21-13-6).
LAST TIME OUT
The Big Green are coming off a 1-0 victory over UMass Lowell on Wednesday night. Junior Justin Donawa scored the only goal of the game, assisted by Matt Danilack and Eduvie Ikoba, his first goal of the season.
Wednesday’s win over UMass Lowell was the fourth straight for Dartmouth, who started the season with two losses. Leading the offense are seniors Matt Danilack and Wyatt Omsberg who have two goals apiece. Donawa leads the team in assists with three, with his goal he has five points on the season, and is tied with Danilack in leading the team in points.
Looking ahead for the Big Green, they will open Ivy League play next Saturday, taking on Princeton at home at 4:30 p.m.
