The Dartmouth ski team returns nine members of its team that competed at the NCAA Championships in 2016 (just as it did the year before), and with a solid group of 10 first-years between the alpine and cross country teams, the Big Green are a strong bet to challenge for a national title.
The men’s and women’s alpine teams return a total of five skiers that earned All-America honors as well as a spot on the All-East Teams last year. On the cross country trails, three of the six All-East performers return for the Big Green, giving Dartmouth a strong opportunity to improve upon its fifth-place showing at last year’s NCAA Championship.
The carnival season begins this year with the alpine events at Vermont on Jan. 13-14, while the Dartmouth Carnival will take place on Feb. 10-11. The Dartmouth Skiway will host the alpine events as usual, while the cross country events will be back at the home venue at Oak Hill as part of the Winter Carnival tradition. The season finishes at the NCAA Championships on March 8-11 in the Big Green’s extended back yard as the University of New Hampshire is serving as the host.
