HANOVER, N.H. – Alex Kirk, the Carolyn A. Pelzel 1954a Head Coach of Women’s Golf at Dartmouth College, was awarded the 2015 Bill Strausbaugh Award by the New Hampshire PGA Chapter of the New England PGA for his leadership and contributions to the game of golf.
Kirk is the New Hampshire PGA President after previously serving as the Vice President and District Director of New Hampshire. In addition to coaching the Big Green for the past four years, Kirk is also the club pro at Hanover Country Club, where he has made numerous contributions to the community for the past 10 years. Kirk runs his own college golf camp for women to help golfers meet collegiate standards. He also teaches private lessons to all ages in partnership with the First Tee of New Hampshire.
In 2013, Kirk started an annual golf tournament in conjunction with The Prouty, a charity that raises money for cancer research and patient benefits at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center. In its first year, the tournament raised $50,000 and last year that figure was doubled as $106,000 was raised for the charity.
This past fall under Kirk’s direction, the Dartmouth women’s golf team took first place in the Dartmouth Invitational as well as top-five finishes at the Chesapeake Bay Invitational and Rutgers Invitational.
