HANOVER, N.H. – Though the winter felt long and spring seems to have just arrived in the Northeast, the schedule for the Dartmouth men’s outdoor track & field team is already at championship season.
The 2014 Ivy League Heptagonal Championship held this weekend at Yale’s Cuyler Field & Dwyer Track is the first such meet of the season. Both running and field events begin Saturday at 11 a.m. as competition will continue through Sunday afternoon and the presentation of team and individual awards to follow.
In all, the Big Green will compete in 21 events across the two days of action in New Haven.
Last season at Princeton and the 2013 Heps Championship, Dartmouth’s men finished sixth with 58 points, figures it looks to improve upon this weekend. The last time the league’s championship meet was held at Yale was in 2011 where the Green also finished sixth.
Look for sophomore Ed Wagner and senior Henry Sterling to add points to the team total as they did last year in the 400m hurdles and 3000m steeplechase, respectively.
The distance runners were strong during the indoor season as the team won the distance medley relay (DMR) and Steve Mangan took home the top spot in the mile, giving the group some confidence heading into this weekend. Will Geoghegan also figures to factor in the scoring as one of the top distance runners in the region this year.
Sunday’s events will be broadcast live on the Ivy League Digital Network, while the conference will have highlights of Saturday’s events on its YouTube page that night.
