PHILADELPHIA – The Dartmouth men wrapped up the weekend at the 120th annual Penn Relays at historic Franklin Field on Saturday.
The highlight of the day was the Big Green’s 4xMile relay team’s record-setting performance. John Bleday (4:12.7), Silas Talbot (4:03.1), Tim Gorman (4:06.0), Steve Mangan (4:06.0) combined to run a 16:27.82 to set a new program standard in the event as well as post the second-fastest time in New England history.
The previous Dartmouth record in the 4xMile was 16:41.04, set 26 years ago in the 1988 season. Saturday’s new mark was established in a ninth-place finish for the Green and White with Oregon dominating the field for the win.
In the earliest event of the day for the team, Jacob Shippee was 11th in the javelin with a measured throw of 204-10.0/62.44m. Three spots back in 14th was Jim Budzinski with a mark of 199-9.0/60.89m.
Thomas Servino was the final member of the men’s team to compete during the weekend in Philly, claiming 12th in the hammer throw with a measurement of 182-0/55.49m to his credit.
