MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – The Dartmouth women’s track & field team began the outdoor portion of the 2014 season just days after wrapping up a seventh-place finish at NCAA Indoor National Championship meet.
The Big Green began the outdoor campaign Friday at the Shamrock Invitational hosted by Coastal Carolina at Doug Shaw Stadium.
The performance of the day belonged to Sarah Bennett in the 3000m steeplechase. Bennett was second overall as well as in her heat, crossing the line in 10:55.66. Lipscomb’s Madelin Talbert ran away with the win in the event, posting a meet record 10:29.26.
In the 100m, Sara Kikut was 17th in the 100m, crossing in 12.41. Her twin sister Anna Kikut was 32nd in the field of 100 competitors with a time of 12.68. Though strong showings in the event, neither qualified for Saturday’s final.
The same was true for Erica Hendershot in the 100m hurdles. Hendershot was fourth in her heat and 20th overall with a 15.81 to her credit, but will not move on.
Throwing outdoors for the first time all year, Cathy Liebowitz was fourth in the hammer with a measured toss of 157-6.0/48.00m on her fifth attempt of the day. Mellissa Dunham was 30th with a 121-3.0/36.96m to her credit.
Stephanie Brown was also fourth in the pole vault. Brown cleared 11-5.75/3.50m on her try at the height.
The Shamrock Invitational continues Saturday.
