Dartmouth athletes make the most of the ice and snow of the cold northeastern winter. On the ice freshman Kennedy Ottenbreit led her women's hockey team to a spot in the ECAC playoffs with two goals and an assist in two wins over the weekend. Fellow freshman Patrick Caldwell won his second cross country ski race in two weeks, winning both the EISA Championship and the NCAA East Regional.

Their efforts are rewarded by being named the Northeast Credit Union Athletes of the Week.

Each week, DartmouthSports.com will spotlight two outstanding student-athletes - one male, one female - as the Northeast Credit Union Athletes of the Week. Student-athletes may be chosen based upon their efforts both on and off the field of competition.

Kennedy Ottenbreit, Fr., Grayson, Saskatchewan,  C, Women's Hockey

After netting a pair of goals in two Dartmouth wins, freshman Kennedy Ottenbreit was named the ECAC Hockey Women’s Rookie of the Week by the league office. The honor comes on the heels of the Big Green’s conference sweep of Brown and Yale this past weekend. Dartmouth earned four points in the conference standings to clinch a postseason berth in the upcoming ECAC Hockey Tournament. The first-year center opened the weekend with a third-period marker to seal the Dartmouth victory. Ottenbreit gave the Big Green a 3-0 lead versus the Bears as she tipped in a shot fired by Olivia Whitford from the point. In the regular season finale, the Grayson, Saskatchewan, native registered a goal and an assist for her first collegiate multi-point contest as Dartmouth topped Yale, 2-1. Ottenbreit opened the scoring 9:24 into the first stanza as she tipped in a shot off the stick of Samantha Zeiss. With the score knotted at one midway through the second period, Ottenbreit fired a shot that was deflected in by linemate Devon Moir for the eventual game winner. During her first year on a campus, Ottenbreit has netted seven markers to go along with a trio of assists. The 10 points rank fourth on the team and is the most amongst freshmen skaters on the team.

Patrick Caldwell, Fr., Lyme, N.H.,  Men's Nordic Skiing

Patrick Caldwell continued his fantastic freshman season, winning his second race in as many weeks by beating out the field at the EISA Championships and NCAA East Regional in the 20K Freestyle. In four of his six races this winter, the rookie has earned a spot on the podium, twice finishing second while also winning the 10K Classic at Williams back on Feb. 15. His performances have led him to qualify to compete at the NCAA Championships in Utah on March 5-8 as the fourth ranked cross country skier from the East.
