NEW YORK – The No. 6 seeded Dartmouth women’s tennis team defeated No. 4 seed Cornell, 5-2, in the fifth-place match at the ECAC Indoor Tennis Championships on Saturday at the Dick Savitt Tennis Center on the campus of Columbia.

The annual event was cancelled last season due to inclement weather as the youthful Big Green had several players competing in the event for the first time.

After dropping the doubles point, Dartmouth rallied to win five of the six singles matches to knock off the higher-seeded Big Red.

In doubles play, Julienne Keong Si Ying and Suzy Tan were the lone Big Green duo to win their match. The tandem topped Christy Kung and Shannon Comolli, 7-6 (3), at No. 3.

In singles action, Taylor Ng and Akiko Okuda won in straight sets for the Green and White at No. 2 and No. 4, respectively.

The other Dartmouth players to earn points were Katherine Yau at No. 1, Melissa Matsuoka at No. 3 and Tan at No. 5. The trio all won their mathes in a third-set super tiebreaker.

The Big Green return to action next weekend, Feb. 15-16, traveling to Wisconsin to face Louisville and the host Badgers in non-conference action.
