KINGSTON, R.I. – Dartmouth senior Janae Dunchack won the women’s pentathlon Friday at Rhode Island’s Mackal Fieldhouse as the Big Green began the 2013-14 indoor track & field season.

Dunchack amassed 3760 points to take the top spot at the 19th annual event hosted by the Rams and was one of five Dartmouth student-athletes competing in the field of 20.

The three-time defending Ivy League champ in the pentathlon ran a 9.08 in the 60-meter hurdles, had a throw of 37-7.25/11.75m in the shot put, cleared 5-7.0/1.70m in the high jump, posted a measured distance of 17-10.75/5.45m in the long jump and ran a 2:29.34 in the 800.

Also competing in the season-opening event fro the Green and White were Lauren Ready (7th – 3065 points), Miranda Lawson (8th – 3053), Abby Feeney (14th –2690) and Aliyah Gallup (DNF).

The rest of the team will open the year Saturday at the Harvard Invitational in Cambridge.
