HANOVER, N.H. – After a scoreless opening period, Cornell scored the lone goal just 37 seconds into the second half to give the Big Red a 1-0 victory over the Dartmouth men’s soccer team on Saturday afternoon at Burnham Field.
It was a defensive seesaw battle for both sides throughout the contest, but a defensive lapse early in the second half gave Cornell the game's only goal. As play resumed out of the locker room, the Big Red’s Conor Goepel walked into the Dartmouth zone after receiving a pass from Stephen Reisert and beat sophomore keeper Stefan Cleveland.
The goal was all Cornell needed to secure the victory, but the Green and White pressured late in the contest and finished with an 8-2 edge in shots.
At the conclusion of the game, Dartmouth head coach Chad Riley honored the six members of the Class of 2014,during an on field ceremony as part of Senior Day ceremonies. Thomas Cools, Andoni Georgiou, Brian Joseff, Patrick Murray, Justin Rosner and Colin Skelly were recognized for their contributions to the Dartmouth men’s soccer program.
Dartmouth will travel to Brown for the season finale next Saturday at 4 p.m.
