TROY, N.Y. – Senior Goaltender Lindsay Holdcroft turned aside 33 of the 34 she faced on Saturday afternoon as the Dartmouth women's hockey team topped Rensselaer, 3-1, in ECAC Hockey action inside Houston Fieldhouse.

The Big Green (1-4-0, 1-3-0 ECACH) avenged a 2-1 defeat a year ago in Troy to the Engineers (2-6-1, 1-1-0 ECACH). The victory was the first of the season for the Green and White and their first on the road at RPI since January of 2009.

For the fourth time this year, Dartmouth opened the scoring as Ali Winkel netted her first marker of 2013-14. The Espanola, Ontario, native converted a pass from Emma Korbs and Karlee Odland to give the Big Green a 1-0 advantage just over 10 minutes into the first stanza. Winkel’s tally would to be the only scoring in the first as Rensselaer outshot the Big Green, 8-5.

The Engineers tied the game at one just under six minutes into the second period as Katie Rooney beat Holdcroft off a pass from linemates Heidi Huhtamaki and Madison Marzario. The conference rivals would trade blows as Rensselaer once again outshot the Big Green, this time, 11-5. Holdcroft stood her ground, making ten saves in the period.

Dartmouth took back the lead with just 20 seconds left in the second as Karlee scored a power-play goal. Odland’s man-up marker was Dartmouth’s fourth of the season as defensemen Eleni Tebano and Morgan Illikainen picked up the assists.

Sophomore Laura Stacey added an insurance goal nine minutes into the third period as she broke out on the penalty kill and scored a goal. Emma Korbs sent a pass to Stacey who finished for her first goal of the young season. The Kleinburg, Ontario, native’s shorthanded goal was the first for the team from the Upper Valley since Jan. 28, 2012, versus Yale.

The special teams unit played a key role for the Green and White as the power play went 1-for-2 and also killed all four of their penalties. For the fourth time in five games, Dartmouth was perfect on the penalty kill and to date they are 20-for-21 when a man down.

Holdcroft (1-2-0) earned her first win of the season between the pipes, registering a season-high .971 save percentage while Kelly O’Brien (2-5-1) made eight saves in a losing effort for RPI.

The Big Green return to action next weekend, Nov. 8-9, traveling back to the Empire State to square off with nationally-ranked Clarkson and St. Lawrence in ECAC Hockey action. The game with the Golden Knights is slated for Friday at 7 p.m. and the contest with the Saints is Saturday at 4 p.m.
