HANOVER, N.H. – The Dartmouth sailing team continued its fall season over the weekend, reeling in a pair of top-five finishes. The Big Green hosted the Captain Hurst Bowl and raced to third-place in the 18-boat fleet.

At the home event at Mascoma Lake, the Green and White earned 214 points over A and B-Division to finish just six points back of second-place Roger Williams. The A-Division sailors of Matt Wefer, Avery Plough and Victor Hollenberg registered 89 points over 15 races to finish fourth in their heat. The Big Green had a strong finish winning three of the final races in A-Division. In B-Division, Christopher Price, Charlotte Snow and Hope Wilson earned 125 points to finish sixth.

Dartmouth finished fifth out of 18 teams at the Yale Women’s Cup. The sailors combined for 177 points over two divisions to finish four points behind fifth-place Stanford. In A-Division, Kelsey Wheeler and Lizzie Guynn tallied 91 points over 12 races. The duo had six top-five finishes during their heat, highlighted by a win in race five. In B-Division, Sarah Williams and Sarah Peck earned 86 points to finish third in their heat. The tandem won the fourth race in finished second in two others.

“On Saturday we were welcomed by a glassy Long Island Sound and after a long wind delay we got our first race off at 2:30. Each division sailed 6 races in soft but wavy conditions building to 6-7 knots. With a timely start on Sunday we were able to complete another 6 races in breeze and big waves,” Wheeler said.

The Big Green return to the water next weekend, Oct. 26-27, competing in five regattas throughout the northeast.
