BOSTON, Mass. - The Dartmouth crew teams kicked off the 2013 fall slate at the 49th Annual Head of the Charles on Sunday afternoon on the Charles River.
The heavyweight eight placed 25th with a time of 15:55.28. The finish was the first time in three seasons that the Big Green did not finish in the top-20. The Green and White finished ninth out of 12 Ivy League boats participating in the race. Harvard finished third overall in the race and first out of the collegiate rowing teams participating in the race. OTC Amsterdam took the victory, finishing two seconds ahead of the team from Harvard and one second in front of the second place finisher Usrowing.
The lightweight eight boat finished in eighth out of 17 entries. The Green and White finished sixth out of 10 other boats in the Ivies. The Big Green defeated boats from Penn, Georgetown, MIT “B” and Yale “B”.
The women’s eight team finished in the top-20 (20), crossing the finish line 17:42.41. Yale’s second boat finished the race as the top Ivy League squad, finishing fifth. The Cambridge boat Club took the top spot in 15:59.549. The Big Green finished eighth out of nine Ancient Eight vessels.
The Dartmouth crew teams get back on the water, Oct. 27 at the Princeton Chase hosted by Princeton.
