EAST GREENWICH, R.I. – Sophomore Elizabeth Markowitz bested a field of 49 other runners, taking the top spot at Friday’s Rothenberg Run hosted by Brown at Gothard Park.
Markowitz ran a 17:20 on the 6K course, edging out Brown’s Heidi Cladwell (17:22) for the individual win. That first-place finish helped the Big Green to second in the team standings with 48 points.
The Bears had the second- through fifth-place runners to take first overall with 22 points.
After Markowitz, Dartmouth saw a sea of runners finish from 10th through 14th. Freshman Helen Schlachtenhaufen was 10th in 18:13.1, while classmate Erin McConnell was less than a second back in 18:13.7.Senior Arianna Vailas was next in 18:17, good for 12th overall. Junior Claudia Pham rounded out the scoring in 14th place as she crossed the finish line in 18:33
Seven other members of the Big Green will be running Saturday afternoon at the Wisconsin adidas Invitational in Madison.
