HANOVER, N.H. – Senior Emma Brush scored the game-winning goal in the 63rd minute to give the Dartmouth women’s soccer team a 1-0 victory over Maine on Sunday afternoon at Burnham Field.
Dartmouth (2-3-1) played a tight defensive contest and held the Black Bears to six shots, with junior Tatiana Saunders making four saves. Neither team possessed the ball for much of the first half, but Maine (3-3-3) had a 3-2 edge in shots.
The Big Green gained momentum in the second half off three corner kicks. In the 63rd minute, sophomore Jackie Friedman received the ball at midfield and lofted a pass into Maine’s zone. After the ball bounced over a Maine defender, Brush already streaking down the field received the ball and sent a chip over the goalie for the lone goal.
The hosts finished the second half out shooting Maine 4-3. Both teams ended with six shots each.
Dartmouth will remain home and take on new Division I member UMass Lowell on Thursday, Sept. 26 at 7 pm. The Big Green will begin Ivy League play on Sunday, Sept. 29 at 1 pm at Brown.
