The Dartmouth women’s volleyball team hosts a tournament inside Leede Arena for the second time in as many weeks welcoming Rhode Island, UConn, in-state rival New Hampshire and No. 9 Minnesota to Hanover for the Dartmouth Duels. The two-day tournament will see five matches of action each day.

During their first home tournament in two seasons last week, the Green and White went 3-1 during the Big Green Invitational. Head coach Erin Lindsey and the Big Green look to build on their Ivy League best 5-2 overall record as their non-conference slate winds down.

Big Green Tidbits

Rank and File – For the first time in program history, Dartmouth’s incoming class received national recognition. The eight freshmen were ranked in the top 100 by PrepVolleyball.com. The premier prep-site listed the Big Green as one of 44 institutions from across the nation to receive a spot on the “High Honorable Mention” list.

Block Party – Through the first seven games of the season, senior co-captain Elisa Scudder leads the Ivy League and ranks second in the country in blocks per set (1.95). Last weekend at the Big Green Invitational, Scudder racked up 28 block assists in the four games.

On a Roll – For the second straight week, freshman Molly Kornfeind was named to the Ivy League weekly honor roll. Kornfeind had 31 kills and 21 digs for Dartmouth. The Pacific Palisades, Calif., native is averaging 3.17 kills per set. Her best game of the week came versus Central Connecticut State when she had 17 kills and an attack percentage of .406.

Weekly Honors – Sophomore Paige Caridi was named the Ivy League Co-Player of the Week. Caridi becomes the first member of the Big Green to receive recognition since Annie Villanueva in November of 2011. During the Big Green Invitational, she racked 57 kills, 59 digs and a trio of double-doubles during the four-game stretch.

Can You Dig It? – Dartmouth ranks 15th in the country with 17.19 digs per set. Through the first quarter of the season the squad has amassed 447 digs. Caridi leads the team with 89, while Holly Harper has 77 and Danielle Glinka has 52.

Killer Power – As a team at the Big Green Invitational, Dartmouth had 215 kills for an average of 13.4 kills per set. Through seven games, the team has 333 kills. Leading the attack is Caridi with 72 and Kornfeind with 57.

New Faces – Dartmouth head coach Erin Lindsey added Dee Smith to the coaching staff in the offseason as she joins Jose Lugo on the sidelines. The eight freshmen also look to make an impact during their first year with the Big Green.

Scouting the Rams – Rhode Island heads to the Upper Valley riding a three-match winning streak. After dropping four straight in early September the Rams won in five during their last match. Franki Darnold leads the team with 52 kills and a team-best 91 digs. Callan Kinnan has a team-best 261 assists.

Scouting the Huskies – UConn enters the Dartmouth Duels having gone 2-1 at the Courtyard Classic hosted by Georgia Tech in Atlanta.  During the tournament, the Huskies won their first two games before falling to the Yellow Jackets, 3-0.  Karson Ratliff leads the team with 111 kills while Brianna Datti has a team-best 161 digs and Marissa Prinzbach has 356 assists.

Scouting the Wildcats – New Hampshire travels across the Granite State having lost three consecutive matches last weekend at a tournament hosted by ACC member Maryland. Morgan Thatcher leads the team with 119 kills with Madison Lightfoot posting a team-high 166 digs and Taylor Dunklau leading with 341 assists.

Scouting the Gophers – No. 9 Minnesota heads east after dropping its first contest of 2013. The Gophers opened the year 8-0 before falling in the finale of the Bluegrass Battle to Kentucky in Lexington. Tori Dixon leads the team with 126 kills. Alexandra Palmer has a team-best 318 assists and Ashley Wittman has 82 digs.

Up Next – Following the Dartmouth Duels, the team travels south to Massachusetts to square off with Harvard in Ivy League action on Sept. 27.
